SUMMARY:Beyond the Blur
DESCRIPTION:The Cyprus High Commission presents the art-photography exhibition by Cypriot fashion photographer Nikolas Louka “Beyond the Blur”.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nPrivate viewing:\n3 MARCH – 6:30pm | CYPRUS HOUSE\n13 St. James’s Square\, SW1Y 4LB\n\nblur meaning: \n·      verb: make or become unclear or less distinct \n·      noun: a thing that cannot be seen or heard clearly \nNikolas Louka’s show at the Cyprus High Commission\, Beyond the Blur\, repurposes a broad spectrum of photographs taken during the photographer’s decade-long career in fashion\, portrait\, theatre and commercial photography. The exhibition invites us to revisit the art of photography\, to look\, indeed\, beyond the “blur” of the medium’s artifice\, facilitated through lens manipulation\, heavy makeup\, smiles\, veils\, masks; to look beyond the stillness or movement of the body\, and – most importantly for our contemporary Instagram-saturated visual culture – beyond the intense editing of digital technology that has blurred the boundaries between reality and fantasy. \nDuration of exhibition:\n3 – 23 March | Mon-Fri 10:00-16:00\n(book a visit via info@culturalchc.co.uk)\n\n\n\nNikolas Louka (b. Cyprus 1984) is a London based photographer. Nikolas studied photography in Athens\, Greece\, where he lived and worked before moving to London in 2011. His uncomplicated\, raw and dynamic style delivers timeless and arresting photos across a broad spectrum of photography that include fashion\, commercial\, theatre and portraiture. He has collaborated with the Greek National Theatre\, the Greek National Opera\, Vogue Greece\, Marie Claire\, Madame Figaro and has created portraits for major Greek and Cypriot stars. Nikolas is the founder and head of E2studios in east London\, producing work for major brands\, including British Vogue\, ID\, Prada\, Sony Music\, and ITV. \nwww.nikolaslouka.com \nOrganized by: Cyprus High Commission – Cultural Section \nSponsored by: Cyprus Ministry of Education\, Culture\, Sports and Youth – Cultural Services

SUMMARY:On Arriving
DESCRIPTION:“How do you decide where to go when you leave home forever? You just decide. And then that is your goal. It’s different from this place\, you hope. Safer\, you hope. You hope.”  \nThe Cyprus High Commission presents the recording of the one-woman play by Ivan Faute On Arriving. SUMMARY:Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2021
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition dates – 22 September until 02 January \nThe world’s most joyful art exhibition is back. From icons to the up-and-coming\, find the art you love from over 1\,300 works selected by coordinator Yinka Shonibare and a panel of artists\, under the theme of ‘Reclaiming Magic’. \n\nPlease note:\n– Our main lift is undergoing essential maintenance. If this affects you\, speak to a member of staff on arrival and allow an extra 10 minutes for them to escort you via an alternative step-free route through the Keepers House.\n– Download our large print guide. \nHeld every year without fail\, the Summer Exhibition is a celebration of contemporary art and architecture. Anyone can enter their work – leading artists\, household names\, new and emerging talent – and it provides a platform for the artistic community to showcase what they’re doing. \nAcross our Main Galleries\, you can peruse prints\, paintings\, photography and film\, as well as sculpture\, architectural works and more. You can even take one home as most of the work is for sale; proceeds support both the exhibiting artist and the RA’s charitable activities. \nThis year\, you’ll find work by Michael Mina\, Njideka Akunyili Crosby\, Michael Armitage\, Jade Montserrat\, Hew Locke\, Rita Keegan and Alvaro Barrington\, plus work by self-taught artists such as Frantz Lamothe\, Bärbel Lange and Marie-Rose Lortet. That’s on top of an Architecture Room curated by David Adjaye RA\, an accompanying sound programme\, new works by Phyllida Barlow RA\, William Kentridge RA and many more\, not to mention brilliant art submitted by members of the public. \nAll this comes together in an array of art and ideas.
