SUMMARY:UNSETTLED – a live documentary performance by Argyro Nicolaou
DESCRIPTION:In UNSETTLED\, filmmaker and writer Argyro Nicolaou presents a one-hour live documentary performance combining still and moving images to explore displacement\, intergenerational memory\, and the unresolved history of Cyprus. \n\n\n\n\nThe performance centres on the town of Varosha on the island’s eastern coast\, where Nicolaou’s mother grew up. After the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974\, Varosha was fenced off and abandoned\, turning into a “ghost town” for over four decades. In 2006\, a family member secretly entered the area and recovered a childhood diary belonging to Nicolaou’s mother — offering the artist a rare glimpse into a life interrupted by conflict. \n\n\n\n\nIn October 2020\, Varosha was partially reopened\, allowing Nicolaou and her mother to visit together for the first time. UNSETTLED weaves personal narrative with political history to trace the contours of memory\, loss\, and return. \n\n\n \n\n\n\nThis performance is part of Nicolaou’s larger documentary project Unsettled (My Sea)\, currently in production. \n\n\nTo watch the teaser click here. \nTo reserve your place click here.

SUMMARY:Cyprus from Within: Patterns of Trade and Connectivity in the Late Bronze Age
DESCRIPTION:Celebrated since antiquity as the “island of copper”\, Cyprus holds an integral part in prehistoric Mediterranean connectivity\, due to its strategic location and wealth in copper resources during the 2nd millennium BC. This period saw the emergence of complex socio-political structures on the island\, alongside the development of systematic commercial and cultural links with neighbouring regions. \nThe lecture offers new insights into the resilience and adaptability of the island’s communities\, as they shaped\, maintained\, and redefined commercial and cross-cultural encounters in times of both stability and upheaval. \nDr Artemis Georgiou\, Assistant Research Professor at the Archaeological Research Unit of the University of Cyprus. \nClick Here to reserve a place – Cyprus from Within: Patterns of Trade and Connectivity in the Late Bronze Age – The Hellenic Centre

SUMMARY:Walking through the Kingdom of Salamis – A Presentation by Anna Marangou
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an unforgettable evening of history\, memory\, and storytelling. \n  \nCelebrated archaeologist and art historian Anna Marangou presents her latest work\, the evocative trilogy Walking through the Kingdom of Salamis\, brought to life through the photographic projections of Petros Fiakkas. The event will feature reflections from Dr. Yiannis Toumazis\, Director of the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation and former Deputy Minister of Culture. \nSpanning thirty-seven centuries of Cypriot history — from prehistoric Enkomi and glorious Salamis to Hellenistic Arsinoe\, Byzantine Constantia\, and the vibrant 20th-century city of Varosha — this deeply personal work is a tribute to a land steeped in memory. More than a historical account\, the trilogy is an emotional journey\, a folk historiography and an elegy for Famagusta. It is a blue box of stories\, images\, and remembrance — a call to preserve the soul of a place that refuses to be forgotten. \nAs Anna Komnena wrote in 1148: “The word of History becomes a mighty barrier against the currents of time.” \nWe look forward to welcoming you to this inspiring evening of words\, images\, and shared memory. \nReserve your spot: click here.
