NEPOMAK UK members hike to raise money for key community charities

Members of NEPOMAK UK will be hiking up 3 of the tallest mountains in Wales in just 24 hours on 29 September to raise money and awareness for two meaningful charities that support the Cypriot Community. The Thalassemia International Federation and the Wood Green Cypriot Community Centre are special charities for our community and have contributed so much to benefit UK Cypriots over the last few decades.

The hikers have set a target of raising £1500 to be split equally between the Thalassemia International Federation and the Wood Green Cypriot Community Centre. Both these charities are in need of financial support and do fantastic work for the Cypriot Community. You can help NEPOMAK UK meet its target by donating via their justgiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/welshthreepeakstifwcc or by following links on the NEPOMAK.uk Facebook page. If you’d like to donate but can’t use this link then please feel free to email us at uk@nepomak.org

Community Support

NEPOMAK UK held a fundraising launch event on Thursday 20 September at the Cypriot Community Centre in Wood Green where they discussed the work of the two charities with key members of each and spoke about the details of the hike.

Catherine West MP (Hornsey and Wood Green) and Theresa Villiers MP (Chipping Barnet) have expressed their support for the initiative and Ms Villiers said that “it’s brilliant that members of NEPOMAK UK will be doing this to raise money for such good causes.”

‘Welsh Three Peaks Challenge’

The hike itself will see members of the committee and secretariat of NEPOMAK UK completing what is known as the ‘Welsh Three Peaks Challenge’. It’s an intensive hike where participants have to hike 17 miles and ascend more than 7600 feet, conquering Mount Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen y Fan in Wales in 24 hours. For perspective, the total ascent on this climb would be higher than climbing from sea level to Mount Olympus – the tallest peak of the Troodos Mountains in Cyprus!
