The National Federation of Cypriots in the UK hosted a working dinner in honour of the Republic of Cyprus Minister of Labour & Social Insurance Mr Kyriakos I. Koushos and the Mayor of Famagusta Dr Simos Ioannou on Monday 25 October.

During the working dinner, representatives of the Federation discussed with Minister Koushos and Mayor Ioannou the latest developments in Cyprus, including the Cyprus problem and the illegal openings in Varosi.

In his remarks, Minister Koushos thanked the Federation and the UK Cypriot diaspora, for its ongoing support since the illegal invasion in 1974. He recognised the important role the diaspora has played, in keeping the Cyprus issue and the illegal occupation on the agenda of the UK Government and international community. The Minister reassured Cypriots abroad that President Anastasiades and his government, will continue working tirelessly for reunification until their last day in office.

Mayor Ioannou also praised the Federation and its member associations for the work they do to keep the communities of occupied cities and towns together, whilst they wait for the opportunity to return to their homeland. He also thanked Minister Koushos, for always supporting the Cypriot refugees, especially those from Famagusta, with their desire to return to their city and save Varosi.

The Federation President, Mr Christos Karaolis said that the UK Cypriot community will continue to support Cyprus and its people, until a free and united Cyprus is achieved. He thanked the Minister for the close collaboration they had when he served as Government Spokesperson and the Mayor for the work the municipality do.

The President of POMAK Mr. Andreas Papaevripides also thanked the Minister and the Mayor for their fruitful cooperation with all the federations, and their willingness every year to attend the world conferences of the Cypriot diaspora in Cyprus, as well as in their countries of residence, to see and hear from overseas Cypriots.
