Cyprus from Within: Patterns of Trade and Connectivity in the Late Bronze Age

Celebrated since antiquity as the “island of copper”, Cyprus holds an integral part in prehistoric Mediterranean connectivity, due to its strategic location and wealth in copper resources during the 2nd millennium BC. This period saw the emergence of complex socio-political structures on the island, alongside the development of systematic commercial and cultural links with neighbouring regions.
The lecture offers new insights into the resilience and adaptability of the island’s communities, as they shaped, maintained, and redefined commercial and cross-cultural encounters in times of both stability and upheaval.
Dr Artemis Georgiou, Assistant Research Professor at the Archaeological Research Unit of the University of Cyprus.
