The UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office has dismissed reports about direct flights from the UK to the occupied area of Cyprus as “untrue” and has reiterated that “direct flights between the UK and the north of Cyprus would not be in line with the UK’s international obligations”.

The British High Commissioner to the Republic of Cyprus, Stephen Lillie, has also reconfirmed, “the obstacle to direct flights is that Ercan does not meet the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organisation & is not a signatory of the Montreal Convention. That won’t change with the UK’s departure from the EU.”
