The National Federation of Cypriots in the UK, in collaboration with the Cultural Section of the Cyprus High Commission in London proudly presented Mediterranean Echoes on 25 June 2026. The concert marked the closing of Cyprus’ EU Presidency cultural programme in London.
Tenor Marios Charalampous and Pianist Andreas Marinou led audiences on a musical journey through the soulful sounds of the Mediterranean, featuring acclaimed the works of acclaimed composers from Manos Hadjidakis to Marios Tokas. Spoken reflections between pieces offered audiences an insight into the emotional and historical context behind each of these compositions.
Guests were welcomed to the event by the High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus in the UK Dr Kyriacos Kouros who gave the main address. He spoke about the important role of culture in dynamic, uncertain times as well as the most recent developments on the Cyprus issue, including the potential UN-led informal 5+1 meeting in June.
Cyprus High Commission Cultural Counsellor Marios Theocharous opened the event, sharing an overview of the six-month-long Cyprus EU Presidency cultural programme across the UK. He specifically thanked the Greek Language School students across the UK who participated in live events to showcase and celebrate Cypriot culture.
The Federation’s President Christos Karaolis also addressed the audience, speaking about Cyprus’ achievements during its EU Presidency and the bridge that culture forms between nations. Cyprus, he said, has championed cooperative dialogue and strategic unity among EU member states.
