On behalf of the National Federation of Cypriots in the UK and our community here in Britain, I’d like to wish the UK Kurdish community a happy and healthy Newroz and a joyful year ahead.
Over the last few years, we have enjoyed a productive and close cooperation with the Kurdish Assembly of Britain and the Armenian National Committee UK, who we live side-by-side with in north London and across the UK. Our communities have a common campaign demanding justice for our peoples against historic crimes, and a common opposition to the aggressive and authoritarian regime of President Erdogan of Turkey, whose illegal actions destabilise the Eastern Mediterranean and wider region.
On this occasion, we also reflect on the heroic efforts and sacrifices made by the Kurdish people and their allies in the fight to defeat ISIS. The international community should do more to commend the invaluable and immense contribution made by the Kurdish people on this front.
Newroz is a time of celebration and renewal and we hope that this new year will bring peace, prosperity and justice to Kurdistan and throughout our region.
Wish best wishes,
Christos Karaolis
