A delegation of Officers from the National Federation of Cypriots in the UK met with the newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Dr Constantinos Kombos during his first visit to the United Kingdom as Foreign Minister.
The Federation was represented by its President Christos Karaolis, Vice Presidents Andreas Papaevripides (POMAK President) and Michael Ellinas, General Secretary Antonia Michaelides, Executive Members Adrian Patsalos (NEPOMAK UK President) and Christos Tuton (NEPOMAK Global President) and Executive Secretary Andreas Karaolis.
In a friendly discussion held at the High Commission of the Republic of Cyprus, the Federation delegation and the Minister discussed his meetings in London with the Foreign Secretary, Shadow Europe Minister and Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Cyprus, the efforts of the Cypriot government to resume negotiations on the Cyprus problem with the enhanced involvement of the European Union, problems that the UK Cypriot community face as well as upcoming events, including the annual Parliamentary meeting in the House of Parliament on July 18th, where the Minister will be the keynote speaker.
Also in attendance was Cyprus High Commissioner Andreas Kakouris, Deputy High Commissioner Spyros Miltiades, Consul General Odysseas Odysseos, Political Counsellor Melivia Demetriou and the Director of the Minister’s Office Demetra Christodoulou.
Speaking after the event, Foreign Minister Kombos thanked the Federation leadership “for the warm welcome and engaging discussion.” He went on to say that the “Diaspora plays a crucial role in our efforts to reunify our island. Cyprus is grateful for your support and continuous work.” He closed by saying he was “Looking forward to working closely with the Federation for the benefit of our country and all Cypriots.”
