The Officers of National Federation of Cypriots in the UK hosted a productive and friendly working dinner with the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Cyprus, Dr Constantinos Kombos.

The Federation was represented by its President Christos Karaolis, Vice Presidents Andreas Papaevripides (POMAK President), Michael Ellinas and Ninos Koumettou, Treasurer Bambos Charalambous and Executive Secretary Andreas Karaolis.

In a warm exchange of views, the delegation discussed the continued efforts by the Federation, to ensure that the Cyprus issue remains on the political agenda in the UK, including the Federation’s Hands Off Cyprus e-campaign and annual Parliamentary event. In addition, the Federation delegation also discussed issues faced by the Cypriot diaspora in the UK, especially following Brexit, including the challenges to bring teachers from Cyprus for community Greek schools, as well as the problems faced by those who wish to repatriate to Cyprus. They also discussed the Federation’s robust and effective response to the many misleading advertisements by Turkey and the pseudo-state, promoting the occupied territories in the British press, magazines and on television as a tourist destination.

In addition, the delegation also discussed the latest developments in the efforts to restart negotiations from the point at which they stopped in Crans Montana. As part of this, the Foreign Minister shared an update following his recent meetings with the British Foreign Secretary, EU Leaders and the UN Secretary General.

Also in attendance was Cyprus High Commissioner Andreas Kakouris, Deputy High Commissioner Spyros Miltiades, Consul General Odysseas Odysseos, Political Counsellor Melivia Demetriou and Eleni Tziortzi from the Minister’s Office.
