On Saturday 23 September, the President of the National Federation of Cypriots in the UK, Christos Karaolis, attended the inauguration of the Eternal Flame memorial in Ealing. The monument, displayed at Ealing Green, is designed to commemorate the victims of the Armenian Genocide of 1915.

 

Guest Speakers at the event included James Murray MP (MP for Ealing North); Councillor Peter Mason (Leader of Ealing Council); former MP Stephen Pound; His Grace Bishop Hovakim Manukyan; His Excellency Armenian Ambassador to the UK Varuzhan Nersesyan, as well as the Chair of the Armenian National Committee in the UK Annette Moskofian; and Chair of the Armenian Community Council of the UK Armand Abramian.

 

Following the inauguration a reception was held, during which time the Federation’s President had the opportunity to speak with the other invited Guests about issues of common interest between Cypriot and Armenian diasporas, including regional developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Cyprus issue.
