On the dark 40th anniversary of the illegal ‘Unilateral Declaration of Independence,’ representatives of the National Federation of Cypriots in the UK delivered a resolution to the Turkish Ambassador in London. The resolution demands Turkey’s reversal of the illegal ‘UDI’ and calls for their return to the negotiating table within the agreed UN framework.

Addressing the Turkish Ambassador, the letter says that “the ongoing illegal occupation of Cyprus by the country you represent, is a blight on its international reputation.” The clear illegality of the ‘UDI’ will continue, the letter adds, to undermine Turkish President Erdogan’s “credibility as an honest and good faith actor” in international conflicts and disputes. The letter went on to say “We call upon you, as the Ambassador of Turkey to the United Kingdom, to listen to the pleas of the Cypriot people, the international community and your host country, to support a reunited Cyprus based on the internationally accepted model of a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation with political equality, as described in UN resolutions, with a single sovereignty, single international personality and single citizenship.”
