The National Federation of Cypriots in the UK hosted a briefing with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Dr Constantinos Kombos, on 17th December. The briefing took place at the High Commission of Cyprus in London, in the presence of High Commissioner Kyriakos Kouros. The event brought together representatives of the Federation’s member associations to discuss current developments in Cyprus and the wider Eastern Mediterranean region.
In his remarks, the Foreign Minister provided an update on the political situation in Cyprus, including efforts to address ongoing challenges and to achieve a just and viable solution to the Cyprus issue. He stressed the government’s unwavering commitment to reunifying the island in accordance with international law and United Nations resolutions.
The Minister also highlighted Cyprus’s growing role as a stable and predictable player in the Eastern Mediterranean, emphasising the country’s strategic importance in fostering regional stability, security, and cooperation. He detailed Cyprus’s active engagement in multilateral initiatives, including on energy, security, and environmental sustainability, which contribute to the island’s position as a regional hub for collaboration.
Federation association representatives had the opportunity to ask questions and exchange views, reaffirming the strong ties between Cyprus and its diaspora. Also in attendance included Director General of the Cyprus MFA Andreas Kakouris, Cyprus MFA diplomats, and local councillors Johnny Thalassites, Renos Georgiou and Lee Scordis.
