On Friday 31st January, the National Federation of Cypriots in the UK hosted General Secretary of AKEL and Member of the House of Representatives, Stefanos Stefanou. At the working dinner, members of the Federation’s Secretariat, exchanged views with Mr Stefanou regarding the Cyprus issue and issues of concern to the UK Cypriot community.
Following exchanges over dinner, Mr Stefanou addressed attendees on the Cyprus issue and the island’s foreign and domestic developments. These included energy issues as well as the emerging situation in the Middle East. Members of the Secretariat, likewise, had the opportunity to discuss the work of their member associations and current initiatives to advance the UK-Cypriot diaspora.
Federation President Christos Karaolis remarked that “The working dinner was a welcome chance for our community and its leadership to interact and exchange views on the issues most pressing to us. As always, we emphasised our commitment, as a diaspora, to support the Republic of Cyprus in all its efforts for freedom and reunification in line with international law.”
