The National Federation of Cypriots in the UK has launched its annual #HandsOffCyprus email campaign ahead of the 51st anniversary of Turkey’s illegal invasion and continued occupation of Cyprus on 20 July. This dark anniversary is an active reminder for everyone to redouble their efforts for a free, united Cyprus.

This year’s campaign comes at a crucial time, with over 50% of MPs newly elected, increased international engagement in Cyprus negotiations, and ongoing efforts to restart talks based on the agreed UN framework.

The campaign urges members of the UK’s Cypriot diaspora and friends of Cyprus to send an automatically generated email to their local MP. This email informs MPs about the ongoing occupation of Cyprus and asks them to support efforts for a free, united Cyprus and to hold Turkey accountable for its actions.

President Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar, along with the UN Secretary-General and Guarantor Powers, held talks in Geneva in March. They agreed on confidence-building measures and a follow-up meeting in July. As a Guarantor Power, the UK plays a key role – and so does our diaspora.

Taking part in the campaign takes less than 30 seconds and can make a huge difference by sending a clear signal to your elected representative and the UK Government. To send your message to your MP, visit the link https://cypriotfederation.org.uk/mp
