The Secretariat of the National Federation of Cypriots in the UK hosted a working dinner in honour of Famagusta Mayor Simos Ioannou, on Monday 17th November at the premises of the Brotherhood. The Mayor was accompanied by Councillors Elias Vorkas and Andreas Avraam, as well as Municipal Director Marilena Manoli.
The Federation’s President Christos Karaolis welcomed the Mayor and Councillors by reaffirming the Federation’s support for refugees and their families, which constitute a large proportion of UK-Cypriots. He continued his remarks by highlighting the Federation’s “support for a solution to the Cyprus problem in line with the agreed UN framework”, which would mean Famagusta’s return to its rightful owners based on UNSC Resolutions 550 and 789. Following the President’s opening remarks, Famagusta Mayor Simos Ioannou thanked the Federation for hosting the Municipality’s delegation and for the support to the cause of refugee return. The Mayor placed great emphasis on “the commitment of UK-Cypriots to their homeland and the cause for a free, united Cyprus”.
Also in attendance at the dinner were the High Commissioner of Cyprus to the UK, H.E. Kyriacos Kouros alongside the High Commission’s Consul General, Odysseas Odysseos and the Deputy High Commissioner, Spyros Miltiades.
