Keeping healthy 🍎

Physical health

It’s important to stay physically active over the next few weeks and one of the best ways of doing that is with simple home exercises.

Personal trainer, Rico Joannou, has put together a suggested home work-out to keep active whilst staying at home. You don’t even have to do all of it, just a little bit of exercise a day will make a difference.

5 Rounds:
10 Squat/Squat Jumps
15 Sit Ups
10 Press Ups
20 Lunges (10 Each Leg)
8 Burpees/20 Star Jumps

You could even do some simple stretches to get rid of aches and pains and improve your posture.

Online classes and blogs:

Lorena Savvidou, Principal of the London Academy of Dance, has some online classes to help keep people active and healthy.

Support for the elderly 👴👵

Shopping

As measures have been announced to combat the spread of COVID-19, people have rushed to supermarkets to stock up on essential items. This has left shelves empty across the country and, unfortunately, the first to miss out on supplies have been the elderly and vulnerable.

The following supermarkets have designated times to support the elderly with their shopping (A-Z):

Iceland: First hour from opening

Marks and Spencer: First hour from opening on Mondays and Thursdays.

Morrisons: 9-10am, Monday to Saturday

Sainsbury’s: 8-9am, Monday, Wednesday and Friday

Tesco: 9-10am, Monday, Wednesday & Thursday (does not apply to ‘Express’ stores)

Waitrose: First hour from opening

Shopping/delivery support

If you are elderly, or vulnerable, and need help getting food or essential supplies, email us at enquiries@cypriotfederation.org.uk, or call us on 0208 4459999. We will put you in touch with a team of young volunteers, organised by NEPOMAK UK, who can help you.

Areas covered include North, Central & East London; Manchester; Canterbury; Colchester; Glasgow; Hertfordshire; Ipswich; Harlow; Bury St Edmunds Newmarket; Red Lodge; Kentford; Stansted; Bishop’s Stortford; Saffron Walden; Harlow; Buntingford; Hertford; Birchanger; and Newport.
